How Can A user Manually Update a Toolbox to 2015 (sldedb) and newer?

This article applies to SOLIDWORKS 2015 and newer.
If updating a Toolbox to SOLIDWORKS 2014 or older, please refer to this article.

Step 1:

Question: How can a user manually update a Toolbox "swbrowser.sldedb" database to the next major version or Service Pack?

Answer: The update to "swbrowser.sldedb" can be manually performed by following the steps below.

Run the utility UpdateBrowserDatabase.exe as an administrator, which can be found at C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\Toolbox\data utilities

Click the ... to the right of the Database to Update field and browse to the swbrowser.sldedb location (By default: C:\SOLIDWORKS Data\lang\english\swbrowser.sldedb)

The Updating Database should point to the directory with the updatedb.sldedb file (Default: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\toolbox\data utilities\lang\english\updatedb.sldedb).

Press Update to update the swbrowser.sldedb to the latest version.


UpdateBrowserDatabase.exe

 

Note: If the user is running a shared Toolbox installation where multiple users interact with the same swbrowser.mdb or swbrowser.sldedb file in a shared location, then ALL users must exit SOLIDWORKS to ensure that no user is locking the database. If the database is currently in use, then the update will fail.

 

Step 2:

Question: How can a user manually update the Toolbox data?

Answer: The update to the Toolbox data can be manually performed by following the steps below.

Run the sldtoolboxupdater.exe as an administrator, which can be found at C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS

Be sure to run the the Toolbox Updater as administrator.

Click "SOLIDWORKS/Toolbox installation media location", navigate to your downloaded installation files, and select that folder.  Click Process.

  • There is a missing file noted above was not found in the location or any folders nearby. This file is:
    swbrowser.sldelb version 19.11 for solidworks 2016, without it there is no hole wizard or toolbox, etc.
    The original request was to send this file but response was to go to this link. We do have the 2016 CD but it does not have the file noted above on it. IT person installed Solidworks 2017 on PC also which I was told could be a problem.
