You can use the ‘Select Other’ command to quickly see all items in an Assembly or Part that are under your mouse, allowing you to pick items from a list such as edges, faces, and vertices.
The Select Other command is accessed by simply right-clicking the model in the graphics area and selecting the 'Select Other' icon 
. Once this is selected, the pointer will change, and a box will appear. From the box you can select the faces, edges, etc. from a list of entities that lie under the pointer.
You can right-click again to remove the face your mouse is hovering over or left-click to confirm your selection.
