This article contains links to resources for SOLIDWORKS CAM and CAMWorks products, and answers interoperability questions.

1.What is SOLIDWORKS CAM?
SOLIDWORKS CAM, (computer-aided manufacturing), is new for 2018. Every seat of SOLIDWORKS 2018 that is on subscription will come with one seat of the SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard Add-In. SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional can be purchased and is a higher level product. SOLIDWORKS CAM is made by HCL, the makers of CAMWorks.

2.What is CAMWorks?
CAMWorks is a professional CAM software made by HCL that has had a longstanding place in the CAM community.
CAMWorks, a SOLIDWORKS Certified "Gold Partner product", is fully integrated computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) solution designed exclusively to operate in SOLIDWORKS and offers knowledge-based, feature recognition and associative machining capabilities within SOLIDWORKS.

3. Can you use SOLIDWORKS CAM and CAMWorks together at the same company?

Yes. SOLIDWORKS CAM was designed by HCL, the makers of CAMWorks, in conjunction with SOLIDWORKS Corp. to be able to work together on the same company system.
Features and operations created on SOLIDWORKS CAM will also be available in CAMWorks, but multiaxis features created in CAMWorks will be suppressed when opened in SOLIDWORKS CAM.

SOLIDWORKS CAM is installed through the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, while CAMWorks uses a separate installer. However, they both can be used for the same installation of SOLIDWORKS, assuming you have licenses available for both.

  • SolidProfessor (link to create account provided through initial email from Hawk Ridge Systems after purchase)
When you received your first e-mails after purchasing CAMWorks, there should have been a link to set up your account at SolidProfessor.

They have over 4 hours of great videos on CAMWorks broken down into particular features (i.e. circular pocket, irregular slot, etc.) and operations (i.e. rough mill, contour mill, etc.), each being a few minutes long, so it's definitely worth signing up for as a way to refresh yourself on different features. Please let us know if you did not receive this email.
