If you have ever experienced missing fonts or fonts that appear changed within SOLIDWORKS, chances are that they are completely missing from your operating system installation. There is a known issue that has been addressed by SOLIDWORKS SPR#949830, in which the SOLIDWORKS installation is the cause of deleted fonts. The SPR states that the fix has been implemented as of SOLIDWORKS 2016 SP04. Regardless of the cause, if you see any symptoms below, chances are the font that was being used, was deleted.
Unfortunately, if the fonts are deleted, the only thing you can do is to reinstall them. You can find fonts online, or if you know the font you are missing, you can create a support ticket requesting the font. If it is a standard font that our agents have installed, we will be able to send it to you. Just email us at support@hawkridgesys.com and let us know what version and service pack of SOLIDWORKS you have installed or upgraded to, and the known font that is missing.
Symptoms
There are two different symptoms that may present themselves if the fonts are missing:
- Error message stating font is missing
- Fonts are a different style of the same font. Often, if a regular font has been deleted, it will be replaced by the same font, except in Italics or Bold. This will be seen in notes or the title block. In the example below, both the note and title block were made with Century Gothic Regular. When opened, with that font deleted, there was no error message; it just replaced the regular font with italicized instead.
Reinstalling Fonts
As mentioned before, if the fonts are deleted, there is not a quick solution. Windows has some capabilities to re-install Windows default fonts, but most fonts get installed by other programs such as the Microsoft Office package. There are websites that you can also download fonts from online, or we can provide them for you, assuming our agents have the missing font installed.
To reinstall fonts:
- Navigate to your Windows Font folder (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Fonts) and have the downloaded fonts handy.
- Drag the missing fonts into the folder and it will install the fonts to your system. The font should appear in the fonts folder when installed.
