This article addresses a known bug where creating a Pack and Go from within the program will crash in SOLIDWORKS 2015 after installing 2016 SP4 or SP5 on the same machine. This has been attributed to SPR #973302.
Symptoms:
If you have installed 2016 SP4 or SP5 while 2015 is currently on the same machine, creating a Pack and Go in 2015 will cause a crash.
Workaround and Solution:
The fix for this issue has been released with SOLIDWORKS 2017 SP1. Even if the user does not want to upgrade, installing 2017 SP1 on the machine will resolve the issue in 2015. If the issue still occurs after the upgrade, run a repair on the 2015 installation (see attached PDF for instructions).
The workaround without installing 2017 SP1 is to create the Pack and Go from Windows Explorer. Navigate to the top-level assembly or drawing you want to be saved, right-click, and select SOLIDWORKS > Pack and Go. This will prompt the Pack and Go window without opening SOLIDWORKS. You can also perform the Pack and Go through SOLIDWORKS Explorer. Both these options have been shown to work when the Pack and Go failed within SOLIDWORKS.
